VIRTUAL CLASS

Since the gap of education between urban and rural students increase significantly in last year, Indian government come up with “Virtual Classroom Project”. This project is linking academic knowledge between urban and rural education.  A virtual classroom is the online learning environment that uses live streaming video conference. Yet, this idea gets some resistance from another particular group. However, I believe virtual classroom will give more positive impact rather than negative such as improving the quality both student and teacher together.

By implementing a virtual class in rural school, it can improve the quality both the student and the teacher. In a rural area, most of the teachers do not know clearly about the subject they have to teach. Sometimes, the teacher in a rural area only has high school certificate and have no qualification as a school teacher.  In some cases, a teacher in rural area teach more than one subject or even teach out of their own area due to the lack of the number of a teacher in their school. By virtual classroom, it does not only improve the quality of students but also teacher can learn from the best teacher in their country.  By adopting high technology facility, the teacher from urban area can be tough through animation and make it easy and fun for the student to learn. This technology also makes the student have more desire to learn as they do not use to see this kind of technology very often.

However, some people who argue believe that virtual classes will eliminate teacher-student interaction like in a traditional classroom. Emotional bonding between teacher and student in the class has a great impact on student personality and creativity. But, in my opinion, it depends on the teaching method provided by the real teacher. They still have time to build the relation between student and teacher emotionally and act as a mentor when the student facing problems in their study.

To sum up, a Virtual classroom is one way to improve the quality of teaching and learning activities in the rural area. Some people will support to this idea and the other will still resist and no one is right or wrong. However, let’s be smart that this idea will give more advantage than disadvantage but still cannot replace completely the traditional class.
