OBESITY, a new world epidemic

Nowadays, obesity becomes a serious problem and classified as global epidemic that even affecting the developing nation globally. In 2010, the people were classed as obese almost to 1.5 billion while the largest is United State around 34 percent (show this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Neo9lBcSkg). Actually, there are two effect of obesity namely health and social issues. This essay will describe the effect and offer some solutions.



Obesity is a problem of malnutrition and bad habit in the modern people. when they gets time with friends and family, they are likely to choose hamburgers, sodas and chocolate cookies to accompany us in the fun time.This condition is also adopted by children who like stay at their home and go online to play some games. Some articles say that one in ten children is obese (Figure 4.)  Body Mass Index, or BMI, is one easy way to determine obese people, by taking weight in kilogram and divided by square of body height in meter.  A normal person is indexed as BMI 18.5-25. An overweigh person is indexed as BMI 25-30, while an obese in indexed as BMI over 30.  


World Health Organization (WHO) stated that the population with obesity in the current decade is more than double since 1980. Obese People with age more than 20 years old, were recorded 1.6 billion in 2010. Meanwhile, 1980 only about 750 million people were obese. From these number about 300 million women were affected by obesity, while 200 million men were affected. Obesity tends to grow in developed country. From the total of its population, USA has 34% of its people obese. In Europe, about 24% of the UK, 23% of Ireland, 22% of Malta, 20 % of Luxemburg population are obese. Germany may have lesser obese people, but the larger overweight people in there are still worrying. France is listed as a European country with lower population of only 11%, as the average Europe population with obesity is 15,5%. This article will explain two effect of obesity are health and social issues together with some offer solution.

The first effect of obesity is health issue. Obesity has negative effect for health in any number of systems in the body. Due to the excessive fat content on the body, blood flow can be restricted by it and by the blockage caused by amount of fat entered the blood vessel. People who are overweight or obese have much greater risk of developing everything from heart disease, cancer, stroke, type-2- diabetes, to bone and joint diseases. Over 50% of deaths are from obesity that related chronic diseases (Figure 2).

In addition, obesity will be related to genetics. People carrying obesity genes are more likely to develop obesity in their adulthood. Genes are also responsible in regulating the process of capturing, storing, and releasing the energy from the food that we consumed. Study of genes helps to see whether an obese person carries the obesity genes or just having the similar lifestyle in the family.  

The second effect of obesity is social issues. The obese people are more likely to suffer from prejudice and discrimination in some situations such as schooling and employment. The obese children have fewer friends at the school due to their condition. They have no good-looking for their friend and unattractive, they are more passive for exercising and another activity that need activity physically. In 2010, children aged below  five were affected by obesity as many as 43 million children in the world. This amount is identified that more children get a excision condition. In this side, obese people will be difficulty in pursuit the new employment after graduated because many company have strict rules regarding overweight of their employee. Someone who have good-looking, have ideal body, more preferred.

Finally, this problem can be solved by healthy eating habits and physical exercises. The healthy eating habits do by healthy diets. They can change the Fast food with health food such as salad, milk, juice and fruits for lunch. They also can consume supplement to fill up their nutrition for body and keep ideal weight without more food on the fun time. Besides that, it can be effective by physical exercises. They can do simple exercise routinely such as walking, jogging, and gym.  They can also pursue some movement from some online sites to get reference exercise at home. The exercise will burn some fat on the body and keep the body have active motion, it is good for bone and joint. 

To sum up, it is apparent that main effect of obesity are health and social problem.  The obesity can be prevented and treated by healthy diet habbits and physical exercises. As the result, increasing number of obesity in the world can be avoided.
